Behind the bravura of center fielder Earle Combs, the Chicago (A) White Sox topped the Seattle Mariners by the score of 9-8. Combs hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3 for the White Sox. Ray Narleski snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-1 on the season. Rocky Coppinger suffered the loss. With the win, the White Sox sit at 25-23.

The White Sox were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 23-year old third baseman Darrell Evans landed a big blow. He turned a full count fastball from Rocky Coppinger into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Comiskey Park denizens into a frenzy and sent the White Sox home with a thrilling 9-8 win.

"We're trying to go out there and win games," Combs told the Chicago (A) Today, "and we played pretty well tonight."
