New York (N) Upended by Montreal, 7-3
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Montreal Expos and New York (N) Mets.
The Montreal Expos picked up a win at Stade Olympique, taking down the New York (N) Mets, 7-3. Starting pitcher Vern Olsen was a big reason why. Montreal bumps their record to 22-23 with the win.
Jim Gantner, who finished 4th in the NL in doubles with 45 in 1996, took New York (N) hurler Paul Erickson deep in the bottom of the third. His 2-run home run put the Expos on top, 2-0. In all, Gantner had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"I thought we played some darn good baseball," said Expos manager Marwan Najdawi.
