Marlins Defeat Cardinals, 7-4
|
St. Louis got a terrific game from shortstop John Valentin. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Miami, 7-4. Valentin was 3-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Matt Albers came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. His record now stands at 1-2. Miami has now won 3 straight, while the Cardinals have lost 3 in a row.
Miami took advantage of an error in the top of the tenth inning. The game was tied, 3-3, when Riggs Stephenson hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put the Marlins in front, 5-3.
"Always feels extra good winning this kind of game," said Stephenson.
