Tigers Thwart Yankees, 4-2
|
The Detroit Tigers picked up a win at Tiger Stadium, dropping the New York (A) Yankees, 4-2. Mark Buehrle, who led the AL in wins with 19 in 1983, was the difference-maker. The Tigers improved their record to 26-15 by beating New York (A).
The Tigers got a big at-bat from catcher Merritt Ranew. For the game, Ranew went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Detroit a 3-2 lead.
"I put my work in and trusted the process," said Buehrle.
