Mets Pin 4-3 Loss on Colorado
|
Starting pitcher Carl Hubbell pitched well enough to help the New York (N) Mets beat the Colorado Rockies, 4-3. Hubbell, now 3-4, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. Bill Scherrer closed the door for New York (N), picking up his 1st save of the year.
Billy Werber, who led the NL in stolen bases with 54 in 1998, had a direct impact on the outcome. Werber contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh inning to put New York (N) up, 4-3.
"I like what I saw today," said New York (N) manager Jamie Dagostini, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
Colorado 's current losing streak is now 5 games.
