Twins Roll Over Yankees, 10-1
|
Minnesota Twins pitcher Earl Francis was in top form, leading his team past the New York (A) Yankees, 10-1. Francis yielded 1 run over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 4, and struck out 6. His record improves to 3-3. By defeating New York (A), the 7th-place Twins improved to 17-20.
Rudy York had a big 2-run double for the Twins in the top of the fourth inning. With Minnesota leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from Rich Nye, who finished 3rd in the AL in innings pitched with 230.1 last year, and swatted a double to center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Twins ahead, 3-0.
"When Earl executes, it really doesn't matter what the other lineup is," said Minnesota field general Dan Hornbaker.
