Twice as Nice: New York (N) Extends Lead to 2-0 With Walk-off Win
|
Behind the big bat of third baseman Mike Schmidt, the New York (N) Mets have opened up a healthy early lead in the World Series. The Mets topped the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-5, at Shea Stadium in Game 2, and now hold a 2-0 edge in the best-of-7 series. Schmidt was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times to power New York (N) to victory.
Argenis Diaz was the walk-off hero for New York (N). With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Mets second baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
Brewers manager Mike Ejercito did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World Series."
Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday at Miller County Field in Milwaukee.
