League Championship Series Game 1 Victory for Carroll and New York (N)
The New York (N) Mets started the League Championship Series in style, downing the visiting Chicago (N) Cubs at Shea Stadium by a score of 4-1 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Mets right-hander Clay Carroll threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball.

With two out in the bottom of the seventh, Billy Werber had a game-changing hit. The Mets second baseman slammed a run-scoring double off Mike Stanton, making the score 3-1, New York (N).

"Clay did a tremendous job," said New York (N) manager Jamie Dagostini.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Shea Stadium in New York.
