Twins Topple Expos, 5-2, as Trillo Shines
|
The Minnesota Twins beat the Montreal Expos, 5-2, at Metropolitan Stadium. Minnesota second baseman Manny Trillo had the hot bat. He belted 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Rick Rhoden picked up the win, lifting his record to 1-3 on the season. He struck out 5 and walked 1 in 7.2 innings, while yielding 2 runs. Picking up the save was 27-year old right-handed pitcher Brusdar Graterol.
Minnesota left fielder Pat McNulty contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 31st hit of the season and put the Twins ahead, 2-1.
Trillo attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
Montreal is 14-16 after the defeat.
