The San Francisco Giants defeated the Seattle Mariners, 5-4, in National League action at Eclipse Park. San Francisco pitcher Tom Gordon had a standout performance. Gordon yielded 4 runs over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9. His record improves to 1-1. Garrett Olson earned the save, his 6th.

Yogi Berra had a big 2-run home run for the Giants in the bottom of the fourth inning. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Giants on top, 5-0.
