Twins Beaten By Cubs, 2-1
|
The Chicago (N) Cubs stopped the Minnesota Twins, 2-1, at Metropolitan Stadium. The Cubs got a big game from Carl Sawatski, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Picking up the save was fireballing left-hander Mike Stanton. The Twins drop to 12-14 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2000 season.
With Chicago (N) leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Sawatski hit a run-scoring single off Minnesota hurler Rick Rhoden. It was the 22nd hit of the season for Sawatski and put his team ahead, 2-0.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Minnesota manager Dan Hornbaker said, following the tough loss.
