Cardinals Topple White Sox, 8-7, as Lowell Shines
|
St. Louis third baseman Mike Lowell picked up 4 ribbies while helping his team beat back the Chicago (A) White Sox, 8-7. Picking up the save was 38-year old right-handed pitcher Vince Colbert. After losing, Chicago (A) is 15-10.
Had John Valentin not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Valentin hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Cardinals.
"I like our mindset right now," said St. Louis manager David Mandel.
