Cardinals Pocket 3-2 Win Against New York (N)
|
The St. Louis Cardinals earned a close win over the New York (N) Mets, thanks in part to Zach Davies. The St. Louis right-hander, who is tied for 7th in the NL in complete games with 3, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. In 6 innings, Davies surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. Sean Burnett, who is tied for 10th in the NL in holds with 11, earned the save for St. Louis.
St. Louis center fielder Alex Escobar contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a curveball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 117th hit of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 3-1.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Escobar told the St. Louis Herald.
St. Louis is now 68-93, New York (N) 110-51.
