Mets, Allen Pin Bad Loss on Astros
The New York (N) Mets beat the Houston Astros, 12-2, at Shea Stadium. The Mets got a fine performance from left fielder Dick Allen, who hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 5. The first-place Mets have won 17 straight games.

New York (N) grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Allen hit a 3-run home run off Luis Castillo. His 36th home run of the season put the Mets out in front, 5-2.

"We didn't put up much resistance," said losing manager Claybor Finley.
