Mariners Need Extra Frames to Get Past Yankees
|
The Seattle Mariners and New York (A) Yankees put on quite a show.
The New York (A) Yankees got a superb performance from pitcher Gary Gentry, but the Seattle Mariners still won the game, 8-4. Gentry threw 10.2 innings allowing 5 runs. Rocky Coppinger picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 6-3. Gary Gentry suffered the loss.
Don Mattingly went 2-5 with 2 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times for Seattle. The 22-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the 11th. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring walk off Sean Marshall. It was his 41st walk of the season.
"Sometimes winning takes more than 27 outs," said Mariners manager Tyler Jorgensen.
The Yankees, now 70-88, have lost 6 straight.
