5-Hit Blitz by New York (N)'s Bonura
|
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Zeke Bonura, it came around today.
The 30-year-old first baseman scattered hits all over Shea Stadium to pace the 15-2 New York (N) Mets victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
Baltimore skipper Andre Ivarsson told reporters in the press room that "Bonura deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Bonura hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Zeke Bonura singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, grounded out in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
This season, Bonura has hit at a .297 clip with 98 RBIs, 15 home runs and 71 runs scored.
