Luis Castillo never let Texas get something going. The Houston right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Astros to a 2-0 win. David Carpenter, who is tied for 10th in the NL in saves with 13, earned the save for Houston. The 9th-place Astros improved to 59-94.

Houston starter Luis Castillo was a master of his craft. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits over 8 innings.

"Luis was able to locate to both sides, up and down," said Houston manager Claybor Finley.
