Cardinals Snatch Late-Game, 5-4 Win
Busch Stadium played host to some dramatic action.

Colorado got a big-time effort from pitcher Boots Poffenberger, but it wasn't enough to keep the St. Louis Cardinals from winning the game, 5-4. Poffenberger threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. The Cardinals improved their record to 64-84 with the win over Colorado .

The Cardinals were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 25-year old left fielder Evar Swanson landed a big blow. He turned a first pitch fastball from Sean Depaula into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Busch Stadium denizens into a frenzy and sent the Cardinals home with a thrilling 5-4 win.

"It's a thrill to get that kind of win," Swanson said.
