The New York (N) Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 11-7, at Shea Stadium. Charlie Moore, in particular, was impressive. He went 2 for 5 with a home run, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. New York (N) reliever John Axford was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was Matt Young. Bill Gogolewski sewed up the save, his 33rd.

Billy Werber had a big 2-run home run for the Mets in the bottom of the fourth inning. With New York (N) trailing 4-3 and a runner on 2nd, he got a sinker from Matt Young, who is a two-time All-Star, and swatted a home run to left. It was his 13th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mets ahead, 5-4.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said New York (N) manager Jamie Dagostini.
