New York (N) Slaps 3-2 Loss on San Francisco
|
In a low-scoring contest between the New York (N) Mets and the San Francisco Giants, Carl Hubbell, who led the AL in strikeouts with 220 in 1997, proved to be the difference. The New York (N) left-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Mets win. Hubbell yielded 2 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 8. His record improves to 14-6. With the win, New York (N) pushed its record to 93-49.
In the top of the fourth inning of a 2-2 tie, New York (N) catcher Charlie Moore reached on an error by the 1B, driving in 1 run. It broke the deadlock and put New York (N) on top, 3-2.
"It was just a matter of executing," said New York (N) manager Jamie Dagostini.
