The Cleveland Guardians had to overcome a fine effort from Milwaukee pitcher Tom Brewer to win, 3-2, at League Park. Brewer went 6.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. Cleveland is now 57-85, Milwaukee 93-49.

Clay Dalrymple went 1 for 3. He drove in 2 runs for Cleveland. The 1998 Rookie of the Year Award winner had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jhoan Duran. It was his 78th RBI of the season.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Milwaukee skipper Mike Ejercito, "and it cost us."
