New York (A) Yankees starter Rich Nye turned in a top-notch performance against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The result was a win for the Yankees, 9-2. Nye, who finished 3rd in the AL in innings pitched with 230.1 last year, went the distance for New York (A). He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits. The defeat makes Baltimore 60-82.

Donald Harris had a big 2-run home run for the Yankees in the top of the second inning. With New York (A) leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a cutter from Walker Buehler, who finished 4th in the NL in ERA with 2.36 in 1989, and punished it. The result was his 11th home run of the season, which put the Yankees on top, 3-0.
