Greenberg Slugs Cubs to 12-4 Win
The St. Louis Cardinals extended their losing streak with a defeat by the Chicago (N) Cubs.

The Chicago (N) Cubs marched over the St. Louis Cardinals, 12-4, at Busch Stadium. Hank Greenberg, who finished 5th in the NL in extra base hits with 85 last year, led the charge. He was 3-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Tommy Milone, the winning pitcher, is now 15-6. He went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 0.

Matt Williams had a big 2-run triple for the Cubs in the top of the third inning. With Chicago (N) leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Johnny Welch and swatted a triple to right. It was his 6th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cubs ahead, 3-0.

"We're in a little funk right now and we've just got to get ourselves out of it," said St. Louis manager David Mandel.

The Cardinals, now 60-80, have lost 8 straight.
