Baltimore Downs New York (A), 5-2
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the New York (A) Yankees and Baltimore Orioles get after it.
The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York (A) Yankees, 5-2, in American League action at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Baltimore pitcher Lou Fette had a standout performance. In 7.1 innings, Fette surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. Jonny Venters got the save, his 28th in 31 chances.
Wayne Comer had a big solo home run for the Orioles in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Baltimore leading 3-2 and the bases empty, he sized up a slider from Teddy Higuera, who finished 3rd in the NL in strikeouts with 165 in 1993, and punished it. The result was his 22nd home run of the season, which put the Orioles on top, 4-2.
"Lou is good at sticking to his strengths," said Baltimore manager Andre Ivarsson.
With the win, Baltimore has a record of 60-80. New York (A) falls to 62-77.
