Cleveland Earn 5-3 Victory at Shea Stadium
|
Behind the hitting of Chico Salmon, the Cleveland Guardians defeated the New York (N) Mets, 5-3. Salmon went 3-4 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Guardians. The winning pitcher was Milt Gaston. He's now 5-15. He went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits for the Guardians. Ken Giles recorded his 7th save for Cleveland.
Cleveland took a 5-2 lead on Salmon's 2nd triple of the season. The run-scoring triple, which he hit off Jeremy Affeldt in the top of the sixth, propelled Cleveland to the win.
Cleveland manager Kevin Conway was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
Cleveland is now 55-82.
