Loss to Yankees Extends New York (N) Losing Streak
|
Despite a fine performance by third baseman Jim Pendleton, the New York (N) Mets lost to the New York (A) Yankees, 5-4. Pendleton was 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Teddy Higuera, who finished 3rd in the NL in strikeouts with 165 in 1993, was the winner. He's now 1-0. The loser was Dave Ford. The Mets drop to 5-9, as their stumbling start to the 2000 season continues.
Scott Leius went 1 for 2 for New York (A). The 28-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Dave Ford. It was his 2nd RBI of the season.
"We squandered some opportunities," said New York (N) manager Jamie Dagostini.
