Cleveland catcher Clay Dalrymple had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 4-3, to Minnesota at Metropolitan Stadium. Dalrymple went 1-1 with a home run and 3 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Minnesota reliever Rusty Meacham, who is tied for 8th in the AL in holds with 8, was credited with the win. His record goes to 3-1. Camilo Doval took the loss for Cleveland. Brusdar Graterol, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 30th save.
Had Manny Trillo not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Trillo hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Twins.
"I like what I saw today," said Minnesota manager Dan Hornbaker, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
The 4th-place Twins lifted their record to 69-63.
