Tigers 6-2 Victors Over Chicago (A)
|
The Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago (A) White Sox by a score of 6-2. Detroit second baseman Delino DeShields deserved the lion's share of the credit. DeShields went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Tigers. The winning pitcher was 40-year old left-handed pitcher Mark Buehrle. He tossed 114 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits. The 4th-place White Sox now sit at 68-62.
Mitch Maier had a big 2-run double for the Tigers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Detroit leading 4-2 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from Harry Kelley, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2000 draft, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 11th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Tigers ahead, 6-2.
Said losing manager Steven Ejercito: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."
