Tigers Victorious at Philadelphia, 7-4
|
No one was more impactful than Jerry Remy in the 7-4 Detroit win over Philadelphia. Remy, who leads the AL in hits with 22, was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 3. Stacy Jones earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. His record is now 1-0. Bob Kelly recorded the save for Detroit, his 6th of the season.
Merritt Ranew was 1 for 5, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Detroit. With one out and the game tied in the top of the seventh inning, Ranew, the 18th overall pick in the 1999 draft, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Philadelphia hurler Tommy Boggs, he grounded out, driving in 1 run to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead.
"I had a good game," said Remy. "Winning makes it even better."
Philadelphia falls to 7-5.
