Rangers Drop Another One, 8-5
|
The Seattle Mariners topped the Texas Rangers, 8-5, at Globe Life Field. Seattle left fielder Al Simmons was a spark plug for the offense. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. The Mariners, at 83-46, have now won 5 straight.
Seattle first baseman Don Mattingly contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the seventh. With two down, he hit a fastball to left-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 153rd hit of the season and put the Mariners ahead, 7-5.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Mattingly.
