Stuart Heroics Not Enough in 13-6 Loss to Montreal
|
Though he had a terrific game, Dick Stuart could not prevent his team, the Baltimore Orioles, from absorbing a loss. Montreal won the game, 13-6. Stuart went 3-4 with 2 home runs and a double, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Bob Weiland, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-2. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 6 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Rex Brothers earned the save for Montreal, his 1st of the year.
George Shuba, who led the NL in batting average with .332 in 1986, chipped in a 3-run home run for Montreal in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 3 RBI.
"I like the roll we're on," said Montreal manager Marwan Najdawi.
The Orioles fall to 5-7 and continue to sputter in the early going.
