For the home crowd, it was a thrilling walk-off win.

The Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Guardians, 8-7, at Fenway Park. The Red Sox got a fine performance from right fielder Skip Schumaker, who was 2-3 with 2 doubles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Red Witt, who is a five-time All-Star, picked up the win in relief. Mike Jeffcoat took the loss for Cleveland.

The decisive blow was delivered by Tommy Brown in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a solo home run off 27-year old left-handed pitcher Mike Jeffcoat to win the game for Boston. The home crowd went nuts.

"This stadium was a-rockin'," said Brown.

Today's win puts Boston at 55-73, while Cleveland falls to 48-78.
