Cardinals Drop Mariners, 2-1

The St. Louis Cardinals downed the Seattle Mariners, 2-1, at Rogers Centre. Stellar pitching by Kyle Gibson had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1995 draft, handcuffed his opponent all game. Losses have been rare for the Mariners, who are now 9-4.
St. Louis used a well-timed hit by Marcell Ozuna to capture the win. The left fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Cardinals ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
"The name on the front of this uniform is all that matters to me," Ozuna told the St. Louis Herald. "And padding the St. Louis win column."
