Cubs Prevail, 7-5, Over Arizona
|
The Chicago (N) Cubs downed the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-5. The hitting star was first baseman Hank Greenberg. Greenberg went 2 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Cubs. Earning his 18th save for Chicago (N) was Mike Paul. The Cubs bumped their record to 77-48 with this win.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Billy Burns came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Arizona pitcher Dave Veres, he hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago (N) on top, 6-5.
Greenberg told the Chicago (N) Citizen: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer."
