Mets Get Hard-Earned Win
|
The New York (N) Mets cut down the Colorado Rockies by the score of 6-5, with the largest share of the credit going to second baseman Billy Werber. Werber went 1 for 3 with a triple and 2 walks. He scored 2 times for the Mets. The 76-46 Mets lead the National League by one game.
The decisive blow was delivered by Frank Robinson in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 25-year old right-handed pitcher Allan Simpson to win the game for New York (N). The home crowd went nuts.
"This place was rockin'," Robinson said.
