Tigers Clip Guardians, 9-8
|
Despite a fine performance by catcher Clay Dalrymple, the Cleveland Guardians lost to the Detroit Tigers, 9-8. Dalrymple was 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs. The win was credited to Ken Brett in relief. His record improves to 4-0. Camilo Doval took the loss. Picking up the save was Bob Kelly. He's now 30 for 30 in save chances.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the eighth, with the game tied, Jerry Remy was at the plate when Detroit scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Tigers to go in front, 9-8.
"Getting the win feels nice," said Remy. "More importantly, I had a good game."
With the win, the Tigers have a record of 65-55.
