Mets Best Astros in Pitching Duel
|
The New York (N) Mets earned a close win over the Houston Astros, thanks in part to Don Drysdale. The New York (N) right-hander, who leads the NL in wins with 15, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. Drysdale picked up the win for New York (N), going 7 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 15-2. Bill Gogolewski, who is a two-time All-Star, nailed down the save.
The Mets got a big at-bat from right fielder Frank Robinson. For the game, Robinson went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. In the top of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 24th home run of the season gave New York (N) a 2-1 lead.
"That's baseball. You just have to find a way to get the job done," said New York (N) manager Jamie Dagostini.
New York (N) now sits at 72-45, while Houston falls to 45-73.
