Bottomley Goes on Rampage Against Cardinals
|
Players get multi-hit games all the time, but 5-hit ones are a whole lot rarer. It happened at Busch Stadium when Jim Bottomley of Arizona scattered 5 hits all over the ballpark against the St. Louis Cardinals.
He went 5-for-5 in a career performance to help the Diamondbacks get by the Cardinals, 8-4. The first baseman was in a talkative and jovial mood after the game, saying his swing "was really, really there today."
"I made some good, sweet-spot contact and when that happens, good things happen," he said. "You know, like going 5-for-5. I could get used to days like this."
Jim Bottomley hit an RBI triple in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Nick Pivetta in the 7th and hit an RBI triple in the 9th.
Thus far this year, Bottomley is hitting .330 with 18 home runs, 76 RBIs and 86 runs scored.
