The Montreal Expos defeated the Chicago (N) Cubs, 7-6, at Stade Olympique. Montreal was led by 31-year old center fielder Brett Gardner, who was 2-3 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Bob Lee came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. His record now stands at 3-1. The setback makes Chicago (N) 72-46.

The Expos were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when slugging left fielder George Shuba landed a big blow. He turned a 2-2 fastball from Matt Albers into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Stade Olympique denizens into a frenzy and sent the Expos home with a thrilling 7-6 win.

"You can't hate how you win if you win," said Montreal skipper Marwan Najdawi.
