Red Sox Down Mets, 7-5
|
The Boston Red Sox defeated the New York (N) Mets in 12 innings, 7-5, in part because of shortstop Vern Stephens. Stephens was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4 for the Red Sox. Boston goes to 47-64, New York (N) to 67-42.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 12th. With two out, Stephens hit a fastball from Bunky Stewart for a 2-run home run. The Red Sox, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"This place was rockin'," said Stephens.
