7-5 Triumph Takes New York (N) to 67-41
|
The New York (N) Mets beat the Boston Red Sox, 7-5, at Fenway Park. The Mets got a fine performance from second baseman Billy Werber, who was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Salome Barojas, the winning pitcher, is now 7-7. He went 7 innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 3. The New York (N) win streak is now 3 games.
Had Frank Robinson not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Robinson hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Mets.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Werber.
