Orioles Win Nail-Biter in 10
|
The Baltimore Orioles did just enough to secure a victory over the Chicago (A) White Sox, 3-2, in 10 innings at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Nobody did more than pitcher Ron Kline. The win was credited to four-time All-Star Jonny Venters in relief. His record improves to 1-3. Ray Narleski took the loss. Their 41-62 record puts the Orioles 9th in the American League.
Batting in the bottom of the tenth, 22-year old catcher Jamie Nelson had a real shot to win the game. Chicago (A) pitcher Ray Narleski was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Nelson hit a run-scoring single. The Orioles had a walk-off triumph.
"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Andre Ivarsson.
