Conine Goes Downtown 3 Times Against Blues
Tuesday, July 15th, 1969
Jeff Conine brutalized the Albuquerque Blues pitching staff, launching three home runs in today's 7-1 victory at Ballpark of Albuquerque. The Mesa Prairie Thunder first baseman was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day.
"I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one."
For the game, he went 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Too much Jeff Conine today," Blues manager said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to."
Jeff Conine flied out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Al Sima in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Severino Gonzalez in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Don Kirkwood in the 8th.
For the season Conine is hitting .369, batted in 71 runs with 28 home runs and 67 runs scored.
